Life on my terms

The Vagabond

Brazen, indifferent, unaffected, live wire, ambitious, headstrong
-that was Shaina.

Despite the persistent efforts by her parents, relatives and friends to get her married- She managed to stay single. At the age of 24, she knew that marriage was not her calling. She had witnessed many of her friends getting married and was aware of their tryst with family life.  She wanted more from life rather than just being a wife, other or a daughter- in - law. Post her M.B.A, life had just begun for her and she did not want to get into a life long commitment. The mysterious ways of marriage did not appeal to her.

When her parents started pestering her too much, she decided to move out. She was a financial analyst for a leading foreign bank. The job paid her a handsome six figure salary. In no time she bought a swanky studio apartment on her own by availing the employee loan facility. She worked for the Compliance team at ASZ bank and the job took her to different countries. A wanderlust and vagabond at heart she enjoyed these perks which came free with her job. Going to new places, meeting new people, exploring new cuisines was her favorite pastime. She would ensure that everytime she visited a new place, she would get a souveneir which adorned her house. Her house soon started to reflect her own personality.

As you enter her house, you are greeted by a huge lion head symbol on the opposite wall which she had picked up her first trip to Singapore. Her fridge bore umpteen number of fridge magnets which she had picked up from various places. Numerous artifacts were waiting to be put up and she thought if not for her but for the artifacts she needed a bigger house!

This time her office was sending her to the United States of America and she secretly hoped that she would meet her first crush- Abhay whom she had heard had moved to US five years back.

........For the rest of the story, keep watching this space

Life Lessons

Like a true Piscean, how I dream that life would be like a beautiful flow of water. Albeit, it is full of hiccups, challenges, ups and downs. And that is where you learn the most beautiful lessons in life and believe me once learned they cant be unlearned.

When I look back at some of the grilling times I went through, I am grateful to God because they taught me a lot. Parents, teachers and elders can guide you with their long list of Do's and Dont's which is also essential however life lessons only Life can teach you. You learn with every passing day and at times also realise the mistakes you did in life. You should be brave enough to accept those mistakes as mistakes and then move on. All said and done, we learn at the cost of time and sometimes our loved ones. When you realise that, do make up for it before its too late.

While we are on our journey with life, dont forget to enjoy life. Spend time on what you like doing, meet friends and relatives, take regular vacations, splurge on things that you otherwise avoid and just let your hair down. I believe in a simple funda called " Enjoy Everyday". Dont wait for a special occasion or a miracle to happen- JUST ENJOY THE JOURNEY :)
